The diagnosis and treatment of cancer causes significant physical, psychological, and social effects that interfere with a person’s sexuality. Sexuality is complex and broadly defined concept comprising: the sexual response cycle, body image, ones’ sexual role and sexual relationships. Several EORTC cancer site specific modules include a limited number of sexual functioning items that do not adequately cover the whole range of sexual health which are most important for cancer patients.

The Cancer Rehabilitation Evaluation System (CARES) is a quality of life (QOL) and needs assessment instrument of US origin that was developed in the 90’s. Since November 2012 the copyright and user fee were abolished and the instrument became publicly available the present study aims to reinvestigate the psychometric properties of the CARES for the Flemish population in Belgium.
Classical psychometric methods have been used to demonstrate the validity and reliability of the 42-item Fear of Cancer Recurrence Inventory (FCRI). Our aim was to expand on this evidence with information on the discriminative value of the individual items when administered to people with a personal history of melanoma, using an item response theory (IRT) approach.
Een unieke pilootstudie naar de levenskwaliteit van Vlaamse kankerpatiënten door de Stichting Kankerregister in samenwerking met Kom op tegen Kanker. Deze studie richt zich op overlevenden van tumoren van de dikke darm en de endeldarm (colorectale kanker); de op één na meest voorkomende kanker bij vrouwen en de op twee na meest frequente kanker bij mannen. Daarnaast wil deze pilootstudie de haalbaarheid testen van dit soort onderzoek met het oog op verderzetting en/of uitbreiding van dergelijk onderzoek naar andere patiëntengroepen of vervolgmetingen bij dezelfde groep.
