Background

Cancer-related cognitive impairments (CRCI) are an important issue for breast cancer patients during the re-entry phase. This study aims to explore the existential themes that interact with the experience of CRCI in breast cancer survivors at the re-entry phase, to gain a holistic insight into the lived experience of breast cancer survivors.

Methods

Hope is important for individuals with cancer in palliative care. Health professionals’ perspective on hope affects the communication with palliative patients. The aim of this study was to explore how Dutch health professionals deal with palliative patients with cancer who hope for prolongation of life. Focus group discussions (FGD) were conducted. An interpretive description approach was used to understand the interpretation of and reaction to hopefulness in palliative patients with cancer by health professionals.

This thesis describes hope in palliative care patients, their family members and their healthcare professionals. An interpretative synthesis of the literature (chapter 2) and a metaphor analysis of semi-structured interviews with palliative care professionals (chapter 3) highlight palliative care professionals’ perspectives on hope. The findings support healthcare professionals to reflect on their ethics of hope and to widen their communicative repertoire.

In samenwerking met de Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam en Frederick Thielen, ontwierp Pieter Vandekerckhove een podcast rond het verbeteren van de zorg voor jonge ouders met kanker en hun kinderen. Hij exploreert belangrijke vragen rond innovaties in de gezondheidszorg en het vinden van voldoening in het leven met deze innovaties.

Een ontroerend verhaal over het einde van het leven en over euthanasie, maar vooral over vriendschap en genegenheid. Voor klein en groot vanaf 4 jaar.
Paulette neemt een beslissing. Ze is erg ziek en de dokter kan haar niet genezen. Paulette wil niet leven met zoveel pijn. Haar besluit is heel moeilijk voor haar omgeving, maar iedereen steunt elkaar.
Na het verhaal van Paulette volgt een woordje over het levenseinde en euthanasie. De vier psychologen die Paulette schreven, gaan dieper in op het thema en bieden handvatten hoe ermee om te gaan, voor grote en kleine mensen.
